Heartland 0-0 El Kanemi Warriors: The Naze Millionaires share spoils with Borno Army in Owerri

Heartland FC created several scoring chances but were unable to convert any before they settle for Heartland FC of Owerri and their Maiduguri contemporaries, El-Kanemi FC, played out a goalless draw after a thrilling match day 26 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The fierce encounter took place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, on Wednesday.

In a hard-fought encounter that failed to produce any goals, Heartland FC and El Kanemi Warriors played out a 0-0 draw in a tense Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture.

Both teams showed determination and defensive solidity, but neither could break the deadlock in what was a competitive, but ultimately frustrating, match.

Heartland FC’s inability to break down El-Kanemi’s defense will be a source of frustration, as they had the lion’s share of possession and territory but couldn’t find the key to unlock their opponents.

While it was an important one point for El-Kanemi Warriors, especially given the away fixture, the lack of sharpness in the final third remains a concern for the Naze Millionaires.

Their defensive resilience was commendable, but they will be disappointed by their inability to make more of their counter-attacks.

Although single point is a solid result, the Owerri landlords will know they need to improve in the attacking department moving forward to their next NPFL home game against Lobi Stars in Maiduguri on Sunday 2 March 2025.

Speaking to journalists after the game, Heartland FC Head Coach/Manager Emmanuel Amunike maintained that his side had no set target for the season, clarifying that he is taking the games one at time with the aim of improving his team on a game by game basis.

Both teams will look to take the positives from their defensive performances, but the inability to score means both will be eager to sharpen their attacking play for their next outings.

Heartland FC will now take on Ikorodu City FC on Sunday 2nd March 2025, in Lagos, where they can hope to get maximum points.
